This unit aims to equip the learners with knowledge, skills and attitudes that will enable them to apply the principles and practices of human resource management as required by a human resource assistant. The learner shall develop competencies required in managing a human resource function, performing the functions of a manager, designing jobs and conducting job analysis, managing talent, implementing a learning and development strategy, appraising employee performance, making decisions, managing employees work discipline, handling employee grievances, managing conflicts at the workplace and employee separation.

This unit seeks to equip the learner with the competencies required in demonstrating the knowledge and skills in performance management, discussing theories of performance management, analysing their relevance to modern management, describing the performance management process, conducting performance management training and coaching, identifying methods of performance management, managing employee performance, applying tools of performance management and managing performance of employees working off-site.

This unit seeks to equip the learner with training and development knowledge and skills required by a human resource assistant in both public and private sectors. It equips the learner wit competencies needed to conduct training and development that includes Training Needs Assessment and Analysis (TNA), program design, development, administration, delivery and program monitoring and evaluation. The unit further covers adult learning, theory, transfer of training, career planning, counselling, training techniques, budgeting and emerging issues and trends in training and development.

This unit seeks to provide the learner with knowledge and skills required by the Human Resource Assistant in labour economics. It equips the learner with competencies to manage people and identify roles in an economic environment, study family labour economics, labour force in the economy, unemployment, labour demand and labour supply, labour market theories, features of formal and informal sectors, labour distribution and economics of wage distribution, wage differentials and relate labour productivity economic growth and labour costs and identify emerging issues and trends.
